Aldermen & Mr. Mayor,

As long as we can't post on the BN Blog, but you will publish emails on that site, we have a voice to be heard.

The town did vote down the bond referendum.  That's a fact.

There is very little confidence in this 4 vote household, or those neighbors that I talk to, that a pay-as-you go plan for phases will remain that.

As to the CBRA zone issue, if your realtor lied to you, that's between you and the realtor.  I did enough research before purchasing to know that the last place in the world I would buy property is where I can not get Federal Flood insurance.  I wish I had done enough research to understand how a town government run by laymen could work to ignore registered voters.

I love Topsail Island and am extremely proud to call this my home.  However, when registered voters, by election law, are ignored, I'm ready to pack it all in and visit the portion of NTB that has beach out of prudence.

I'll grant that this is a difficult situation for the board.  I know you are elected to serve.  All I ask is that you remember who legally elected you, don't seek self serving legislation, and understand that those that live in the CBRA zone are truly legally responsible for any effort to save their properties.

Now, I understand that CRA zone people may end up being taxed to pay for a Federal Beach Nourishment Program in the south end.  To that, I say pass a referendum that taxes only those that own in the Non-CBRA zone to pay for that.  I'm more than willing to pony up for that.  Mostly because we don't need any sand, and I know that how the Federal Government works, we won't see that sand for at least a decade.

The following message was emailed on 7/19 (Carin Z. Faulkner, Town Clerk):

Dear Mayor Aldermen:

We were unable to submit our comments on beach nourishment via your blog, so...we want you to know fully support beach nourishment! Those who commented that BN was voted down previously are wrong...the bond funding plan was voted down by a handful of people but the property owner survey was overwhelmingly in favor!  They are also wrong when they say buyers were warned about CBRA...we were not. In fact, our realtor told us "beach nourishment is in place."  And who are "the developers?"  Those who oppose BN are short sighted and apparently don't understand the potential economic disaster that the whole area would suffer with out the beach and TOURISTS! They think taxes are high now? Just wait till the tourists go elsewhere because they can't walk the beach at high tide.  Thanks and please keep up the good work towards BN (and a terminal groin at the North end!). We look forward to the meeting on 7/24.

M & J
