Building Inspections
The primary goal of the Building inspections department is to enforce the North Carolina State Building Codes to
include Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire for all Residential and Commercial projects.
This shall apply to All construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, use and occupancy,
demolition of every Building or Structure to include appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures.
The purpose is to ensure that the Minimum requirements established to safeguard life or limb, health and public welfare are achieved.
The Town currently enforces the following editions:
2009 North Carolina Building Codes
2009 North Carolina Residential Codes
2009 North Carolina Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel-Gas, Fire, Energy, and Administrative Codes
2008 National Electric Codes

Building Inspections is responsible for:
Plan review and permit issuance of all proposed construction to assure compliance with all state and local codes
Provide explanation of codes, ordinances, and requirements that apply to each project
Assist the public with concerns relative to safety within their homes or place of business
